Detrick is a grade 11 high school student at Qitiqliq High School in Arviat. He sees the value in education that's why he returned to high school and wanted to participate on the field school. He was a delegate for the Rural Forum in Brandon, Manitoba in April 2005. Once graduated, he aspires to join the military as a Water, Fuel and Environment Technician (am I correct DDawg?).

D may seem shy and quiet, but underneath it all, he's a really cool guy. He has a great sense of humor and doesn't really get mad at all (do you?). Playing volleyball with him is awesome, and he's a killer on the basketball court (I think we established that when we played basketball, and he did not miss one shot! I was so jealous of his skills). He should really try to go places with his basketball - you never saw him move this fast out in the field!

In the field, D was a very hard worker, who seemed to get totally into digging (or his music, I haven't figured that out yet): "I don't know what to expect (with rock formation in the square), but I'll work on it." Awesome work, D!!!!!! He also appreciated the dramatic mountainous landscape of Pond Inlet compared to the flat tundra of his hometown and learnt to deal with the 24 hour sunlight. The highlight for him was climbing up Igarjuaq.
