Isidore (Rodman) is a grade 10 student at Nasivvik High School in Pond Inlet. He applied to be a participant
on this field school because he wanted to learn more about Inuit history.
Isidore is a quiet person who is open and friendly to everyone. He loves to listen to music and even dance :) Isidore
worked for Parks Canada in the past and worked on a traditional knowledge project with QIA after the field school. His interest
and dedication to understanding his ancestors and their lifestyles is very apparent.
Isidore spent a lot of time on the Total Station (the equipment we used to take laser readings of the site to create
a very detailed map), which really paid off. The map looks excellent, which could not have been done without the hard work
of students like Isidore. GREAT WORK, ISIDORE!!!!! He really enjoyed the jobs that required math/calulating, computers and
using a range of equipment.
Despite his hard work, we suggest he should get his own rod to help him when he climbs mountains. Maybe next time you
climb Igarjuaq, you should take it a little slower, and wait for us (I'm just teasing, Isidore). Unfortunately he hurt his
leg and was unable to make it to the top of the mountain. Maybe next time Isidore?
Isidore feels that youth today are losing the skills and knowledge that their elders have and that wage labour (day jobs)
are taking away some of the sharing that went on in the past between generations.
